Below are some tips to keep in mind as you load your EasySTOR portable in order to protect your belongings while also making the most of the space in each container.

  1. Be sure to use a storage inventory list to record which items go in each container and its general location within the container. This will allow you to find an item easily, should you need to access your goods while in storage.
  2. All boxes should be labeled on several sides for easy locating.
  3. Always load the heaviest items first. Place dressers, large china cabinets, sofas, refrigerators, and other heavy appliances on the floor of the container. Use protective covers on sofas and mattresses. Then load chairs, tables, bookcases, and light items and boxes around the larger, heavy
items. EasyStor offers furniture pads for rent and other protective items such as mattress bags/boxes for sale, and they’re delivered right to your front door.
  4. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors slightly ajar and clean before storing. Don’t forget to use the space inside these appliances for extra storage.
  5. Load each EasyStor portable a quarter at a time, packing it tightly from floor to ceiling. Secure each quarter with rope or twine to prevent shifting during transit.
  6. Store couches on end to maximize space.
  7. Pack mirrors and pictures in mirror boxes and store upright to avoid being crushed or broken.
  8. Stack lighter boxes on top of bigger, heavier ones.
  9. Disassemble tables and shelves and store on their sides, using furniture pads to protect from damage during transit. Keep all hardware in a plastic bag and securely tape the bag to the furniture, so you have it all together when you are ready to re-assemble.
  10. If you are renting and storing more than one EasyStor portable container, store items you’ll need most often in one particular portable, again keeping a detailed inventory of each EasyStor portable container, so you can find specific goods easily.
  11. Lock each EasyStor portable container with your own padlock and keep the key in a safe location, where you will easily be able to find it upon re-delivery.
  1. Plan and pack your self storage space carefully.
  2. Leave air space around the perimeter to aid ventilation.
  3. Place protection on concrete floors for mattresses, soft furnishings and books.
  4. Do not lean items against walls.
  5. Use all storage space available especially height, and place frequently used goods near the door.
  6. As a general rule, place large heavy and valuable items that you can stack upon, at the rear of the unit. Then work forwards and upwards with lighter fragile items.
  7. EasyStor units are kept spotlessly clean, but, it is still a good idea to position soft cloths or cardboard underneath mattresses, couches, boxes and beds to keep them protected.
  8. Any long items such as mattresses, beds and table tops should be placed on their edges along walls.
  9. If there’s a chance you may require any item you are leaving in storage, pack it into the truck first so it is removed last and will be near the door for easy access.
  10. Store all important documents, passports, bills, invoices, guarantees and easy to lose items like glasses, keys and remote controls in one box. That way you will know exactly where you can find them. Leave the box near the door of your self storage unit.
  11. Always totally enclose mattresses and soft furnishings with our specially designed Mattress and Lounge Covers.
  12. Where possible, store couches (with the exception of sofa beds) on their ends to maximize space.
  13. Wrap mirrors and pictures with bubble wrap or use mirror boxes. Never store these items flat. Place mirrors in an upright position and protect them by securing them between softer items such as mattresses or bed-bases.
  14. Label all boxes on all sides for easy locating.
  15. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors slightly ajar and clean before storing. Don’t forget to use the space inside them for extra storage. Please make sure all water is drained out of washing machines. Ensure freezers and fridges have been completely defrosted.
  16. It is vital that you check that everything is stacked safely and securely and not too high. Falling items can injure you or be damaged.
  17. The space inside wardrobes, cupboards, desks, fridges etc. are great to utilize for extra space.
  1. Buy plenty of moving boxes early and start packing them as soon as you can. So when moving day comes you’ll be fully prepared, as delays on moving day can be costly and very stressful.
  2. Use the same sized moving boxes for easy stacking. EasyStor packing boxes are specifically sized to make stacking and tiering easier. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can make do with cardboard boxes picked up at your local supermarket. They aren’t strong enough and you risk damaging you goods. EasyStor boxes are also fresh and new, unlike used boxes that
could be soiled or might be carrying unwanted pests.
  3. List all the items that go into each box in a duplicate invoice book, and then number each box with their invoice number on all sides. Packing and labelling cartons room by room makes the unpacking much easier. The full list of contents is conveniently indexed in the book, which should be stored by the unit door for easy reference. No matter how each box is stored, you
will know its contents by sighting its number. A set of duplicate copies should be placed in your storage folder at home.
  4. Fill cartons to capacity; partially full or bulging cartons may tip or collapse. Pack empty space with Butcher’s Paper or extra linen to prevent collapsing when stacked.
  5. Seal boxes completely with packing tape to keep out dust and to strengthen.
  6. Pack books and other heavy objects in the smaller boxes for easy lifting. Our Book and Wine Cartons are perfect. Keep under 16 kg and stack the heaviest boxes at the bottom.
  7. If you need to store clothes, EasyStor Port-a-Robes (temporary closets) are perfect to take your clothes on hangers from wardrobe to box. Their depth allows you to store clothes on hangers, with the unused space at the bottom being very useful for storing shoes and other related items. Clothing and Linen Bags or Tea Chests Cartons are also ideal for clothes and linen.

You wouldn’t think of leaving your precious goods uninsured at home. The same applies to goods in self storage. Even with EasyStor’s enviable record of safety and security, accidents can occur for reasons beyond anyone’s control. Fire, theft and storm damage can happen in your home, they can happen in our yard, or storage building also. For this reason, we advise you to organize self storage insurance. If your property is worth storing – it’s worth insuring. EasyStor insures their sites, but not your goods. The items you place in self storage are your sole responsibility and should always be insured. We recommend that while you have the EasyStor portable storage container at your site, you go through your insurance broker to cover the contents of the container. Once the container is in our compound or storage building, you may not be covered by your insurance company. If not, you can access an insurance benefit we have available for our customers as an option from PalCanada Insurance. All you have to do is go online to www.palcanada.com for a quotation or you can contact your local insurance broker to contact Pal Canada for you. Tell them you want All Risks/Replacement Cost on your contents.
